Off-Ridge Vent
Off-ridge vents are static exhaust vents installed on the roof slope a few feet below the ridge — used where a continuous ridge vent is impractical, such as on short ridge sections, complex rooflines, or roofs with structural features at the peak.
They function like elongated box vents: hot air rises and exits through their baffled openings. They ventilate less evenly than a full ridge vent, but they are far better than no exhaust ventilation at all.
Placement matters: too low on the slope and they exhaust cooler air while heat pools above them; too close to the ridge and they may conflict with ridge vent sections on adjacent roof planes.
Why It Matters
Not every roof can take a ridge vent. Off-ridge vents are the right fallback — the key is placing them high on the slope with clear soffit intake below.
